Playwright and screenwriter
I am currently working on an adaptation for the National Theatre of Scotland and a pilot script for a TV comedy series.
I graduated with a BA Drama and Theatre Arts in 2002. I loved my time at ɬÂþÌìÌÃ, the classes were usually fun and full of laughter and I met some best friends for life there. Ìý
I left university with a few original playscripts under my belt. But, I knew I still had a lot to learn and confidence to gain, so I promptly joined the Traverse Young Writers’ Group.
There, I strengthened my voice and eventually gave them one of my plays to read. Off the back of that they commissioned me for a new idea, which became my first full professional production, 'Distracted', in 2006.
Since then, I have had two further productions at the Traverse; 'The Artist Man & The Mother Woman', and 'How To Disappear', in amongst other smaller scale projects.
Other companies I have written for include A Play, A Pie and A Pint, Lung Ha, Dogstar, Catherine Wheels, Frozen Charlotte, NT Connections, NTS, Nutshell, Grid Iron, Plutot La Vie, Raindog, Tron and BBC.Ìý
My work has taken me to Australia, Canada and Sweden.
"In recent years I have begun to transfer my writing skills to the screen with my first short film I Was Here, which was nominated for Best Short Film awards at BAFTA Scotland and EIFF."
I enjoy telling stories for both stage and screen and in the long term I hope to work across both mediums.
My top tips for students and recent graduates would be to lean in to what makes you unique. Persevere and be patient.
