Dr Linda Renton is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy for the Division of Occupational Therapy and Art Therapies. With 8 years of a clinical background in mental health, Linda became a Lecturer in Occupational Therapy with ɬ in 1989. Since then she has been a Programme Leader for the MSc in Occupational Therapy for 9 years, taught on undergraduate and post graduate programmes and been involved in 8 occupational therapy, internal, programme validations. She completed an MSc in Counselling Studies and she is presently undertaking her Doctoral studies. She has specific expertise in curriculum design, programme validation, and e-learning. Linda’s main teaching focus is on the topics of counselling and occupational therapy.
Within the Division, Linda’s teaching roles include being Module Coordinator. She is the Admissions Tutor for the MSc (Post Reg) in Occupational Therapy Programme, and is a member of the Programme Committee for BSc/BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy and the MSc in Occupational Therapy (Post Reg) programmes. She teaches on a further five modules.
Linda supports knowledge exchange and international relations by undertaking the role of Occupational Therapy Coordinator for ERASMUS+ Student/Teacher Exchanges with Norway, Portugal, Germany, and Denmark. She is the Academic Link and Chair of the Joint Board of Studies for two External Collaboration Agencies: Physis Psychotherapy Training Institute for their MSc in Counselling (Transactional Analysis), and the Athens Metropolitan College in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece where a joint BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy is delivered. Within the ɬ community, Linda sits on the Senate, Recognition of Prior Learning Committee, Academic Links Committee, and the Collaborations Forum.
Linda now concentrates her research interests on preretirement counselling, occupational therapy.. She is an External Examiner at two English universities on undergraduate and post graduate occupational therapy programmes. She is also a reviewer for the British Journal of Occupational Therapy and for the College of Occupational Therapy Conferences and recent European and World Federation Conferences.

Linda’s past research has included “Counselling Skills in Occupational Therapy” (MSc Dissertation).
Active Research Interests:
- Presently Linda is researching the topic of Pre Retirement as part of her Professional Doctorate Project.
Linda has extensive experience as a lecturer and at present is a Module Coordinator for both undergraduate: the BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy Programme and post graduate modules: the MSC in Occupational Therapy programmes She also teaches on additional modules.
In her role as Academic Link for an overseas Collaborative Partnership, she assures the academic quality of the partnership programme through running staff continuing professional development, ensuring quality moderation and building working relationships with the partner staff.
Linda also prioritises her duty as a Personal Academic Tutor, Dissertation Supervisor and Distance Learning Supervisor for students on both undergraduate and post graduate programmes.
Awarded the British Association of Occupational Therapists’ (BAOT) Merit Award for “outstanding contribution to occupational therapy” when this was first time this honour was awarded.
Linda also received a “Discretionary Award” which is one of the College of Occupational Therapists’ Awards for Education; Research and Continuing Professional Development and it was in “recognition of work as 1st Alternate for BAOT/COT on World federation of Occupational therapists Council.
