Call for submissions & presenter guidelines

We are living through unsettling times which continue to challenge our professional certainties and assumptions. The conference title, ‘music therapy in progress: please disturb’ conveys our wish to create a playful and invigorating event. While celebrating and building on existing knowledge, practices and achievements in the field, we want to take a side step.

We invite proposals which bring to the fore diverse and radical perspectives within and around music therapy. These may ‘disrupt’ conventional ideas, practices, and methodologies, opening up conversations about future directions for the profession and the discipline of music therapy.

The conference language is English and submissions for both face-to-face and online presentation formats are invited as outlined below.

Submission types (face-to-face or online)

We welcome the following submission types:

Workshops

These will be allocated 1.5 hours. It is our intention to include a broad range of workshops that will address the conference theme creatively.

Ìý

Roundtables

These will be allocated a 1.5 hours slot. Roundtables may take different forms, but in keeping with the spirit of the conference should have a strong element of dialogue. They should be submitted as one proposal, and it is the responsibility of the roundtable chair to coordinate the participation of all roundtable members (at least four members).

Poster presentations

Posters will be available online only. There will be opportunities for poster presenters and conference delegates to engage actively in dialogue.

Spoken paper presentations

These will be allocated a 20-minute time slot with an additional 5 minutes for discussion.

Other presentation types

In keeping with our wish to ‘disturb’, we also welcome submissions that may not fit neatly within the presentation types above.Ìý

How to submit an abstract

Submitting an abstract is a simple step-by-step process which starts withÌýÌýThe word limit for abstracts is 250 words and further details regarding word count and references are provided in the portal.

The person who submits the abstract will be the contact person for the abstract. They will need to create a conference account to upload the abstract(s) in the portal. The email and password used to create the account should be saved to enable entry to the portal in the future.

Details of co-presenters should be provided on the form. Permission should be received from all co-presenters prior to submission.ÌýPlease note, you can save your submission as a draft and return to edit it until the close of the submission period.ÌýAbstracts cannot be edited, and will not be accepted after this time.

Review process and notification
All abstracts submitted will be reviewed anonymously by members of the Conference Scientific Committee. Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the contact presenter.

In order to create a balanced, inclusive programme, the conference organisers may suggest that a presentation is amended to fit in a different presentation type than initially submitted.ÌýContact presenters will be emailed about this as appropriate.

It is not a requirement to register for the conference itself prior to submitting an abstract.ÌýHowever, if the abstract is accepted, the contact presenter of an accepted abstract must register and attend the conference.

Presentation, modifications, and withdrawals
The abstract title and text should be correct at the submission deadline.ÌýAny changes in the abstract title or body will not be possible after the submission deadline. Requests to change a submission from online to face-to-face, or vice versa can be made if necessary.
